Valdez, AK – Friday, July 29,2011
Up to another cool morning. Looks like good weather, still overcast, but no rain. The scenery on this part of the Richardson Highway is really beautiful. The clouds sort of hang in the mountains and everything is lush and green.
We stopped at Worthington Glacier State Park. We could see it coming down the road. The ranger there was a real character. She was a pretty tough cookie with lots of stories. She told us all about Valdez and places to go. Looks like a good place to hang out hat for a few days.
The closer we got to the coast the more waterfalls we could see.
No obvious places to boondock in Valdez, so we went around to several RV parks. They were all about the same, side by side on a gravel lot. We decided on Bayview RV Park and paid up for a week. Time to settle in and enjoy.
There are supposed to be lots of eagles that hang around the bay and not long after we were set up we saw a small black bear running through the marsh. We even had a surprise “treat” come through the campground.
Decided to take a walk down to the harbor(Port Valdez) on Prince William Sound. The salmon are running and everyone is up for fishing. The cleaning stations were very busy and the seagulls had fresh pickings.
