Big Horn Route

Grand Prairie, Alberta, CA – Sunday, July 10, 2011

It appears to have stopped raining and it’s 56 degrees. No sunshine, but it does look better. EJ went into IGA to get a few fresh produce items and to the Shoppers Drug Mart just to see what was there. She thought she had found a deal on a 24 pack of bottled spring water at $1.99 but realized they have a 10 cent per bottle deposit. That meant the deposit would be more than the water and total cost wasn’t such a deal. We have yet to see where you can return all of the bottles/cans to get the deposits back.

Having already said 3 days in Hinton was enough, this was rapidly expanding into the fourth.  It was already 3:25PM , but BG (& Frank) wanted to hit the road. We hadn’t been on the road for 5 minutes and it began to rain. We ran in and out of showers most of the day. Only one was hard enough to clean all the bugs off of the windshield.

Traffic wasn’t bad at all , but the roads had some rough areas. The rivers and creeks were pretty swollen and running pretty fast. We didn’t see any severe flooding, but everything is very, very soggy.

We passed a big area of coal mining and they were actually working on Sunday. The rest of the scenery was trees, trees, trees. Beautiful green everywhere. Lumbering is a big industry here also.

Stopped at Grand Cache Visitors Center. Nice displays and information on the area.  We continued on even though it was already 6pm. Made it to Grand Prairie around 8:30 to, you guessed it . . . Walmart.
