Teslin Lake, Yukon Territory – Sunday, July 17, 2011
Since we ended up in a commercial campground we decided to take advantage of the laundromat and car wash facilities. Got up early and finally finished around 1:30, so off we go.
First stop today was the Beaver Lodge & the Wolf it Down Café in Nugget City, YT. Nice gift shop and we had to get a fresh banana bread slice to go.
Break time so we pulled out at the Rancheria Lodge. Learned that the lodges along the highway were built as bus stops for refueling and passenger breaks when the road first opened to the public. Most are one room places and many are closed today due to better road conditions and the need for less stops. Took a walk down to the river to stretch our legs. Found this structure along the way, no idea what it was. Do any of you?
Only a few miles up the road we took the trail to Rancheria Falls. Nice board walk down to the two falls. It didn’t take the mosquitos long to know there was fresh meat along the trail.
Got to Teslin where we planned on pulling our for the night, the place we planned on going had “No Overnight Parking” signs. At least we got a nice view of the Teslin Bridge which is the longest on the Alaskan highway.
Traveled over the bridge and through town. Went to the next rest area, and the same sign, so we went across the road to a pull out that didn’t have a sign. Had nice views of Teslin Lake and Ten Mile Creek ran right beside the RV. Time to relax.
