Rika’s Roadhouse near Delta Junction, AK – Friday, September 16, 2001
The journey home has begun. We have finally left Fairbanks for the last time. Over the past 16 days, 11 of them have been spent doing things from here. That is the longest time we have spent in any one place in Alaska. We obviously enjoyed ourselves here as we kept coming back. In spite of a friends suggestion that we put snow tracks on BG, it’s farewell Fairbanks, time to head to the lower 48 and look for warmer climes.
But now it’s on to other towns. First stop, North Pole.
There we visit the Santa Claus House. The Santa is 42’ tall and the building decorations are done in tiles.
Where Santa let’s us know how many days until Christmas and shows us all sorts of things to buy.
Wow! Only 99 days to Christmas! We better get going. But first, EJ Moosed get her picture taken.
Frank’s ready to hit the road.
Along the way we crossed over the Tanana River on a bridge right next to the Alaska Pipeline. Most of the pipeline is underground here, but they had to get it across the river some how.
This evenings destination, Rika’s Roadhouse. This is part of a state park and campground. Officially, the campground closed yesterday, September 15 (end of Season), so there is no charge. However, the restaurant here closed yesterday too, so we think this is a foretelling of things to come. No fresh hot cinnamon buns..sob!
