Church on the Rock House, Wasilla, AK – July 9, 2014
We’re on our way towards Anchorage, thinking that maybe we’ll stop at the Eagle River State Campground. So we’re tooling on down the road when we spy this RV sitting by the roadside at a stoplight in Wasilla.
Wait a minute, we know that RV! That’s Steve and Nancy! We’re on the Parks Highway and it’s pretty darn busy, construction and all, but we manage to pull over about a block down the road. We walk back to find out that their over-under drive had conked out leaving them stranded. So we decided to stick around until the tow truck showed up and see if we could help out in any way.
EJ and Nancy put their heads together and start planning, while Steve and I discussed what was going to be done to get their RV fixed. Finally the tow truck shows and they get hooked up.
It seems like Good Sam Roadside Assistance had dropped the ball and was no help at all. Steve had to call around and find a tow truck on his own and pay for it up front hoping that Good Sam would reimburse him. That’s not how this is supposed to work. He also has found a place nearby that can start to work on it in a few days but they told him they can’t live in it while it’s at the shop.
The folks at the shop are super nice, but it’s the beginning of Alaska residents salmon net fishing season and the shop will be closed for a long weekend, hence the delay in completing repairs.
In the meantime Nancy has managed to find a church that will let them stay in a freshly remodeled home for a week while their RV is being repaired.
We stay to help them unload their RV and move their stuff from the repair shop to the church house. About this time it decides to start drizzling. But we finally get it all packed and delivered to the house. Turns out, there is even room for Big Guy to spend the night.
After we get everything unpacked, we relax for an hour or so, then get together for some games until it’s time to retire to our respective abodes until the next day.
We had just planned on going to the Farmer’s Market in Wasilla (and we did), but that’s what loosey goosey is all about.
