MM12 Talkeetna Spur Rd, Talkeetna, AK – July 8,2014
On the way to Talkeetna we stop at the Denali Viewpoint South State Park to try and see “The Great One” one more time.
Is that it behind those clouds? Or maybe just to the right?
Following the Days End instructions we pull into a suggested boondocking spot, but don’t like the site or it’s surroundings. It’s like a big gravel bowl and it has no privacy. So we wander off in search of a new place to camp and find one hidden from the road plus it’s surrounded by trees. As an added bonus, plenty of sunlight can reach the solar panels to keep the batteries charged up.
With Big Guy safely tucked away, we wander into town just as the Alaska Railroad pulls in and disgorges its load of passengers.
We make a quick beeline to the other end of town, past all the trinket shops, to see the Talkeetna river. With the rain of the last few weeks and the glacier melt it is over flowing its banks.
It looks like the crowds have died down and there’s room to wander the streets again.
EJ decides she needs to see if any of the stores need some of her money. And Frank looks at this wall and decides he better get busy before EJ spends all her money.
The Alaskan Beer Study continues.
We stop by the Talkeetna Camper Park to look up Steve, Nancy, KC and Sheila. We sit around and talk about each other’s plans for a while before we go back to Big Guy.
It’s a quaint little town, but tomorrow we start the journey towards Anchorage to get properly restocked for the next section of the trip.
