Lethbridge, AB, CA – Sunday, October 2, 2011
The morning started out with a search for fuel, but along our path we found no filling stations that were RV friendly. No worries, the smaller communities seem to be set up to handle trucks and farm equipment so we’ll find something down the road.
In Red Deer we found a station that sold both propane and fuel so we pulled in. After about 15 minutes we gave up. We could not get the attend interested in coming out to fill BG with propane so we bought nothing. We found a Flying J and filled with fuel, but even though they had a propane tank, their wasn’t anyone available that was trained to pump propane. In both cases the attendants were very young and not terribly interested in exerting themselves. That’s the first time we ran into that in Canada. Red Deer was an odd town.
An on the road observation: It appears that everyone living in Edmonton is traveling by car to Calgary, and that everyone in Calgary was traveling to Edmonton on this Sunday afternoon. There was a lot of traffic. After we passed Calgary, most of the traffic disappeared.
But, coming into Calgary it was quite a sight. Homes, squished together like sardines in a can, were everywhere. New construction was in evidence too.
And then there was the city skyline. On the left coming into town from the north and on the right leaving town to the south.
And here’s another railroad bridge. This one is kinda spindly compared to the one from yesterday. Most of the landscape today was farmland and fairly flat. We did get a glimpse of the Rockies to the west for awhile, but otherwise, no hills.
Arrived at the Walmart in Lethbridge and set up our night camp. We’re in the company of about 5 other RVs. Only about 65 miles to the border, now.
