Path less traveled–Denali Highway

MM185.6 Parks Hwy - East Fork Chulitna Wayside, AK July 7, 2014

Denali time is over, but before we get to Talkeetna, we decide to check out the Denali Highway. It is only about 20 miles so EJ followed in the Element. Nice view.

We found a place to park BG and headed off on the unpaved road. It was fairly decent for a gravel road. Even though it was overcast, the scenery was great.

Traffic was almost nil and then we were surprised to see a tour bus coming our way. Where were they coming from?

Frank’s keen eyes spotted this tree. Looks like Christmas year round.

We stopped at a rest area and took a walk to the river, but didn’t stay long because of the mosquitos. This one house was intriguing. We wonder which will go first, the house or the tree.

Some parts of the road weren’t in such great shape.

Time to turn around and head back down the Parks Highway. More amazing views and an odd remnant along the way.

Found a nice boondock spot and called it a night. Another fun side track.
