Buckaloons Campground, Warren, PA 7-4-2015
You all know my aversion to crowds, so it surprised me as much as it does you that we decided to embraced the crowds of Warren and go downtown to watch the 4th of July parade. Several posts ago we showed pictures of chairs already lined up along the parade. Folks were staking out the prime spots to watch the parade. We thought about bringing chairs, but decided to remain mobile.
This post is going to be picture intensive so bear with us.
Prior to the start of the parade…
This little fella is all decked out in his patriotic regalia.
And it begins..
About 25% of the floats in the parade were politically oriented.
The Corvette club was well represented.
This old timey fire hose wagon just about got out of control. Here they are putting on the brakes so they don’t hit the float in front of them.
This band played some pretty good tunes.
One of the unique buildings downtown.
PT109 float.
Fantasy characters.
What parade is complete without a clown car?
Old cars and hatchets.
The Shriners had a ball in their go-carts.
I’m not sure, but I think this guy was trying to get EJ to enlist!
After the end of the parade we decided it would be a good idea to retire to Big Guy for a nap. Tonight's fireworks don’t start until 9:30 which is pretty close to bedtime for us folks. Some pre-emptive rest time should help since we figure we’ll be out pretty late tonight.
We mentioned the folks around here take their 4th of July celebrations pretty serious. On the way back to the campground we get back on the 4 lane highway to the campground and this is what the entrance ramp looks. These folks have already staked out their spots and even have blankets and chairs already set up.
We had already scouted out a spot a little further away from fireworks central but it was up on a bluff which afforded up a perfect view of the display from several different locations.
And yes, it was a wee chilly.
The fireworks were very outstanding for such a small community. Plus, we could see fireworks from 3 different locations.
From our perch up on the bluff we could see the 4 lane highway down below. After the fireworks ended it looked and sounded like a stock car race with all the people trying to beat the crowds on the way home. We hung around for quite a while and on the way back to Buckaloons still got tangled up in traffic.
Next up, a railroad bridge destroyed by a tornado.
