We’re Leaving Great Falls (Really!)

Butte, Montana – Saturday, Oct 8, 2011

We really think we’re going to leave Great Falls today.  The sun is out and the rain is finally over.  It’s been rainy for the last 4 days, and there is no sense in traveling in the rain if you don’t have too.  Plus there were snow conditions forecast for the roads we planned to take.  But all that is over now.

Our little local prairie dog has even shown up again.  During all the rain we had, we were wondering if he had gotten flooded out of his subterranean home.

Frank installed the new water pump.  He was able to get a local RV Dealer to swap a new one for the one we had just purchased in Fairbanks less than a month ago.  He couldn’t believe the dealer didn’t want any documentation.  They called Shurflo Pumps and were assured they would get a new pump if they gave us the one they had in stock.  So we’re back in business again and still have the original first pump we can limp by on if this one fails too.

While we were out scouting for propane, fuel and a dump station the other day we found a Co-Op dealer that could handle all our needs.  So that is the first place we head this morning.  One hour later we have filled everything and dumped the tanks.  An added bonus was that the price of diesel dropped 6 cents from the first time we came by and propane was the cheapest yet.

We went back by the Westgate Casino and hooked up the Element and we’re on our way (Really!).

Our destination today is Butte, Montana.  Our route is I-15.  We normally like to avoid the interstates, but way up north here, the roads are pretty much deserted and we feel like we almost have the road to ourselves. Getting to see some change in the scenery, too.

We stop to take a break and take a trail up to the top of a hill and have this great view of the Missouri River.  Lewis and Clark traveled down there on the “Corps of Discovery” journey.

I-15 does have some serious curves and you have to pay attention.  Unfortunately for this guy, something went wrong.

We also get to see the results of some of the precipitation that fell in the last 4 days.  Makes us glad we decided to stay put.

We arrive in Butte and set up camp at about 5:15.  We were a little early but the RVs started pouring in after we got there.  We were able to park right next to a grassy field and Frank set up the Satellite dish and recorded a Batman movie, The Dark Knight.  It sure is nice being able to watch it without commercials.

Of course we make our trip into Walmart to pay for our overnight stay in the form of several purchases.
