Hot Cinnamon Buns Rule

Whitehorse, Yukon Territory – Monday, July 18, 2011

Up to 55 degrees! Took our time getting ready and left around noon. We read about another world famous cinnamon bun place and had to check out their claim. It was at Johnson’s Crossing (I’m sure they had to be some distant relative of mine). When we got there they were out of buns, but never fear, there was a fresh batch in the oven and they would be ready in about 15 minutes. It smelled so good in there, we decided to wait and have one hot & fresh, right out of the oven. While we waited we took a walk down to the river to look at the bridge we just crossed over. Well, folks, the wait was worth it. I just wish we had thought to take a picture of it. Salad for supper!!

Lots of close to the highway rivers, lakes and mountains along this stretch.

We opted not to take the Carcross loop and headed for Whitehorse and the Walmart parking lot. Good thing we got there fairly early. It was a small lot and the RV population kept growing. It was still raining, but we decided to drive around and check out the town. Found this unique building on our outing. Discovered later that buildings like this were built because the population went from 500 to 8000 during the construction of the Alaska Highway. Not enough land so they built the “Log skyscrapers”.
